A fall engagement session in Jackson, Michigan
Katie and Trey met in college, and I photographed their engagement at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson, Michigan. It was my last engagement session of the year, and we caught the park on a beautiful fall day. Some trees were already red, others were bright yellow, and there was still plenty of green in the grass. One of my favorite frames is Katie laughing from over Trey’s shoulder as he carries her across the lawn.
From the cabin steps to the red leaves
By the log cabin, Trey reached for Katie’s hand while she stood on the steps. I like how that wider portrait gives you a sense of the place. The closer photographs feel quieter. In one, they turn toward each other beneath the red leaves. In the next, you can see Katie’s ring as their hands meet.
The little gestures
I like to leave room in an engagement session for photos like this one. Katie and Trey hooked their pinkies, and the green and cream sleeves frame their hands. It’s a small gesture that says plenty about how comfortable they are together.
Two ways to remember the afternoon
I like seeing the ring close-up alongside the photo of them smiling on the path. One lets you see the detail in Katie’s ring and the knit of her sweater. The other has the feel of a photo they might have taken together on any fall afternoon. It was a good way to close out my engagement season.
