Getting ready in Greektown
We started at the Hollywood Casino at Greektown hotel in downtown Detroit. Jia gathered her lace skirt to slip on a white heel by the window, with a flash of red showing beneath the hem. In another frame she’s back by the window with her veil on, quietly reading a card. Old St. Mary’s was right next door.
A Catholic ceremony at Old St. Mary’s
Jia and Andi got married at Old St. Mary’s in Detroit. I stepped back for Jia’s portrait in the doorway so you could see her veil spill down the steps. Inside, I came in close for the photo of Andi kissing her temple. Her eyes are closed, and you can see the smile spread across her face.
Out in the gardens at Meadow Brook Hall
After the ceremony we headed to Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester. The garden steps gave us room to show Jia’s lace train against the stone. One of my favorite portraits is a quieter one under the trees. Andi is seated, Jia rests her head on his knee, and they both look right at the camera.
Cake and dancing at the reception
There’s a frame of Jia and Andi smiling up from their table with a slice of cake in front of each of them. I like it alongside the dance floor photo, where Jia is laughing in Andi’s arms and their guests are watching from beneath the stone arches.
